The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) needs to hear why the Internet is important to you, how you use the Internet, and what barriers you face to broadband access. As big media pushes policymakers to fully privatize the Internet, and the FCC works against the clock to develop the first ever National Broadband Plan, they need to hear the voices of people of color and the poor.

One of the highlights of the recent Media Justice Leadership Institute was a song written by our partners in the Bay Area. “Broadband in Yo Face” brought the message we delivered to the FCC three days before that to a space I could connect to….music. Many of us realized that the song was too special and too good not to record it. So we busted out our Zoom recorder.

For $39.99 customers of Walgreens, Amazon, Target and other retailers can buy an “illegal alien” costume. The costume is made up of an orange prison-style jumpsuit with the words “illegal alien” written across the chest and even has a mask of a space invader and a green card. The only difference between selling this racist, anti-immigrant costume and the hate speech on Fox News is millions of dollars in profit to be made. Oh wait…that’s not that different. Support the United Farmworkers with a letter to retailers now!

Senators Vitter and Bennett have introduced Amendment 2644 to HR 2847, which, if passed, will hold up census forms unless they include questions about your citizenship status.

Questioning people about their citizenship status will not only intimidate undocumented people but also scare off anyone worried about the privacy of their information. We need your help to stop this insidious effort as it will discourage millions of people from participating in the Census and cost our communities billions in revenue.

For years, Lou Dobbs has used his platform on CNN to spread myths and misinformation about Latinos and immigrants, even as his network tries to woo Latino viewers. Dobbs is helping fuel the rising tide of hatred and extremism against Latinos in this country. It’s time we said enough (that’s “basta” in Spanish).
